When I was much younger, I heard an author interviewed (I've long since forgotten her name and/or work) and she said one thing which stuck with me: she said that the older she got, and the more she wrote, the more difficult writing was for her, as she had reached a level where choosing every word, and crafting every sentence had become painstaking. Now that I actually am older, I absolutely relate. In a lot of ways, I miss the ability to simply express my ideas by mindlessly barfing up thousands of words of plain prose without consulting a thesaurus or obsessing over punctuation, for no better reason than I was able to express so many more ideas that way. Sometimes I think my path to becoming a better writer is to stop trying to write well.
I love this point. I am currently listening to a class taught by Amy Tan (author of The Joy Luck Club) and she said something similar-- that it's important to work from a beginner's mind when it comes to creative endeavors or we end up restricted ourselves in the process with the knowledge and experience we have.
While I wish I would have pulled the Goddess of Barfing Up Words for you... two other cards actually popped out of the deck: Yuki-Onna (Stillness) and Mary (Miracles). Yuki-Onna is the Japanese goddess of winter and helps to move us from periods of "stuckness" due to emotional burdens, resistance, or denial. The last line of the writeup about her says, "slow down and let all your troubles go, and you will see the miracles life has to offer you." Which is a great segue to your second card, Mary. While I am personally not a fan of religion, I love the concept of Mary as a divine energy and goddess in her own right. She is here to guide you into the mindset of positive belief and opportunity--that you don't need the outer world to change before you fall in love with yourself or the life that you have consciously created. "What is for you has its own divine timetable."
Take what resonates, throw away the rest. Big hugs! Jill
I want to thank you for the writing mornings! They have been hugely helpful to me in getting my flow back. As I mentioned this morning, my 2025 is about Intentions. I also wrote about it on Monday on my Substack post!
I am so glad. These lives are also hugely helpful to me, providing much-needed accountability for me to get done what I need to get done. It is always such a pleasure to see your IG handle join the Live. I truly appreciate you being there. I also look forward to checking out your Substack.
Your goddess energy card for 2025 is the Aboriginal Australian goddess, Yhi, who represents The Sun. She is about being bold and brave and not shrinking away during the process of evolution. She is also about shining light on our shadows and facing things we may have denied or defended, so that we can step freely into the light.
I can't wait to see all the good that this year brings you!
